THE JOURNEY

You have read the articles in the magazines, seen glimpses in the ski and snowboard movies, heard all about it from your friends. Now it is your turn to experience the magic of Whistler. Get ready for the vacation of a lifetime!

This winter season more than ever, Whistler Blackcomb promises plenty of excitement.  To make sure you get the most out of your holiday. Whistler is a friendly ski town located in British Columbia, Canada and is home to almost 10,000 residents. One of the many things that makes Whistler so special is two unbelievable mountains - Whistler and Blackcomb. Side by side, they represent over 8000 acres of skiable terrain, rising a mile above the valley of Whistler.

2010 Olympics!!

With the 2010 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games coming this winter, venue construction preparations are complete in the resort and on the mountains. Whistler Blackcomb is the venue for the men's and women's Olympic and Paralympic alpine skiing disciplines of Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Super Combined.

In preparation for these events, crews led by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), contoured and reshaped the men's and women's downhill courses on Whistler Mountain. The men's Downhill will take place on the Dave Murray course, while the women's Downhill, and all Paralympic alpine skiing events, will take place on a newly designed race course combining the runs Wildcard, Jimmy's Joker and mid to lower Franz's Trail.

Improvements to snowmaking technology have been ongoing since 2006 and include doubling the size of the reservoir, installing snowmaking pipework, and pump station upgrades. VANOC spent approximately $17.6 million on snowmaking infrastructure for the Games, a legacy for Whistler Blackcomb and all of its guests long after 2010.

Meanwhile, the competed Whistler Sliding Centre is located on the lower flank of Blackcomb Mountain. The Sliding Centre, which will have a venue capacity of 12,000, will host the Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton events.

ACTIVITIES

Pleasurable Mountain Riding, daily happy hours with live acoustic performances, spa gatherings, and free sponsor giveaways. Optional Horseback riding in the snow, Snowmobiling & Sleigh Rides.

PEAK 2 PEAK grand opening

Green power project and 2010 Games countdown set the stage for an unprecedented winter.

On December 12, 2008, the dream to link Whistler and Blackcomb mountains becomes a reality with the grand opening of the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. The world-record breaking gondola is the first lift of its kind in North America and is destined to become Canada's newest tourism icon. During the winter, skiers and riders will enjoy infinite opportunities to experience the side-by-side mountains. In the summer, the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will bring sightseers and hikers into the high alpine to experience breathtaking scenic views of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Spanning 4.4 kilometres (2.73 miles) in total distance from mountain to mountain, the Doppelmayr 3S tri-cable gondola boasts the world's longest unsupported span of 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles), as well as the world's highest lift of its kind at 436 metres (1,427 feet) above the valley floor.
